What Is the Babydoll Dance? The TikTok Trend, Explained

The song, the two-step, who started it and why best friends, families and dads are all doing it. Plus how the AI version puts you in the line.

Last updated: 2026-10-25

The Babydoll dance trend is a TikTok two-step routine done to "Babydoll" by Jamie Miller, a retro pop song released on August 7, 2026. The moves are chugs, side steps, ball changes, step-touches, arm circles and a shoulder shimmy, usually danced by two or three people in a row, smiling straight at the camera. It started in Jamie Miller's own promo videos, and by October 2026 friends, families and more than a few dads were doing it on TikTok, Instagram and beyond. The AI version on Babydoll Dance takes one photo of you (or your pet) and puts you in the middle of one real take of the dance, with the song on it.

Where the Babydoll Dance Came From

The dance comes from the artist himself. Jamie Miller is a Welsh singer from Cardiff, a former The Voice UK finalist known for "Here's Your Perfect", and he promoted "Babydoll" with his own dance videos:

  • July 24, 2026: an early promo post, before the song was even out (Know Your Meme).
  • August 7, 2026: "Babydoll" is released.
  • August 16, 2026: Miller posts the video most people picture: him and two dancers in black suits, white shirts and sunglasses on a sunny street, captioned "Had to hit the babydoll two step". It had about 7.2M views on October 25, 2026 (watch it on TikTok).
  • August 17, 2026: a dance video with actress Jennifer Love Hewitt.
  • August 24, 2026: dance teacher Xito Rico (@xitorico) posts a tutorial, saying he helped Jamie Miller make the "Baby Doll challenge" (his tutorial).

What Song Is the Babydoll Dance? "Babydoll" by Jamie Miller

"Babydoll" is a retro, Motown-flavored pop song. It debuted at No. 1 on the US Pop iTunes chart and passed 13 million streams (uDiscover Music). The dance is done to the chorus, the "if someone's gonna hurt me … that someone's gotta be you" part.

There is also a duet. Antonio Cipriano, the actor and singer who stars in the series "Off Campus", joined Miller's dance videos first, fans asked for an official collaboration, and the "Babydoll" version with Cipriano came out on September 18, 2026.

Not to be mixed up with: other songs called "Babydoll" (Dominic Fike's, Mariah Carey's) and the older "AI baby dance" trend with dancing babies. Different songs, different dances.

Why Everyone Is Doing It

The routine is a two-step built for a row of two or three people, and it looks best when everyone is grinning at the camera. Jamie Miller kept it rolling by dancing it with other performers: Jennifer Love Hewitt, Meghan Trainor, Jesse McCartney, Lucy Hale, Trisha Paytas, Julianne Hough, Rylee Arnold of Dancing With The Stars and the Savannah Bananas (uDiscover Music), and actress Bailee Madison on the Hoboken waterfront (Hoboken Girl).

After Hewitt's posts in mid-August, regular people took over (Know Your Meme):

  • @shelbanddyl's version (September 28, 2026) passed 7.6M views.
  • Perrie posted a "bestie sleepover" version (September 30, 2026).
  • @dadandcloshow taught their dad the dance (October 6, 2026) and passed 2M views.

Then came AI versions made from a single photo, pets included. @sebby.phin's AI cats, a tabby and a tuxedo cat, did the routine on their hind legs on October 14, 2026.

How the AI Babydoll Dance Works

Our AI copies one real take: three friends in dark hoodies dancing in a row on a tree-lined country lane in front of a fixed camera, posted by @gracebettyharmer on TikTok on October 14, 2026 (the original). It re-creates that take with your photo as the dancer in the middle. It doesn't invent a new dance.

What comes from the take:

  • the tree-lined country lane and the fixed camera
  • the timing and the moves (kicks, spin, shimmy and point, superstar jump, rockstar arm swings, linked-arm bounce)
  • the two friends on the left and right, who keep dancing next to you
  • Jamie Miller's "Babydoll", the chorus the dance is done to, laid on by our server and lined up with the moves

What comes from your photo:

  • who the dancer in the middle is: you, your pet or a friend who said yes
  • their own clothes (the background of your photo isn't used)

You choose 6, 10 or 15 seconds. The 15-second video is the whole second half of the routine, from the kicks to the linked-arm finish; 10 seconds starts at the shimmy and point; 6 seconds is the superstar jump, the wide arms and the first arm swings. Every video is a vertical 9:16 MP4 in 720p with no watermark, made with the Wan 3.0 video model. AI results vary from one render to the next.
